About VASCEPA

Why take VASCEPA
for your very high triglycerides?

VASCEPA is a prescription product that contains only one type of omega-3: EPA. Unlike dietary fish-oil supplements, VASCEPA is specially processed and highly purified. As a result, VASCEPA is an effective way to treat your very high triglycerides.

LOWERED
TRIGLYCERIDES

It's important to know that VASCEPA was approved by the FDA.

The maker of VASCEPA follows the FDA's strict quality control standards for prescription products. In addition, VASCEPA can be used safely with or without statins, a type of cholesterol-lowering drug.

* MARINE trial, as compared with placebo.

How is
VASCEPA different
from supplement fish oil?

VASCEPA is the only prescription product purified from fish oil that contains only the omega-3 EPA. Other fish-oil products may contain both EPA and another omega-3, DHA.

This is important because studies have shown that, in patients with very high triglycerides, DHA raises levels of bad cholesterol. Other triglyceride-lowering medications have also raised bad cholesterol in patients with very high triglycerides.* VASCEPA has been shown to have no effect on bad cholesterol in a clinical trial as compared to placebo.

In addition, it could take 10 to 40 omega-3 dietary supplement fish-oil capsules daily to get the 4 grams of EPA in VASCEPA. That would cost more than a prescription copay with the VASCEPA Savings Card.

No head-to-head studies have been done to compare the effects of VASCEPA and other triglyceride-lowering medicine. Talk to your doctor about which triglyceride-lowering medicine is right for you. Your doctor will consider the FDA-approved labeling of triglyceride-lowering therapies before prescribing.

Do not take VASCEPA if you are allergic to icosapent ethyl or any of the ingredients in VASCEPA. It is not known if people who are allergic to fish or shellfish are also allergic to VASCEPA.

* Increase in bad cholesterol seen with other triglyceride-lowering medications was seen in patients with very high triglyceride levels.
